It has been a year since Miu Miu’s dental procedure with us, here at Highlands Animal Care. Her owner, Ariel, has seen amazing improvements in the 4 year old female spayed Pomeranian’s overall quality of life since the cleaning and extractions were done. Even with nightly brushing, Miu Miu needed to have eleven teeth extracted, which included seven baby teeth that hadn’t fallen out on their own when they should have around the age of 6-8 months. This is not uncommon, especially for smaller breed dogs, as daily brushing is certainly helpful but only on the surface. X-rays are still needed to ensure that decay under the gumline is also caught and treated properly before they worsen and lead to other health problems. Just like humans, taking your pets in for dental consultations and cleanings is recommended to catch issues early on to avoid any unnecessary pain for the pet and costly treatments/procedures in the future.

We spoke with Miu Miu’s owner, Ariel, to get an update on how she’s been doing:

“Since Miu Miu’s dental work last year she has maintained higher energy levels, always wanting to play – especially tug of war! She has a stronger grip on toys and definitely has more fun now, even allowing us to pet her head when before her dental procedure she was extremely head shy. Her breath is also much better and doesn’t have a strong odor anymore. We’ve made sure to keep a routine of brushing her teeth every night before she sleeps which she actually looks forward to and enjoys!”

It brings us great pride and happiness knowing that we were able to improve Miu Miu’s daily life by cleaning her teeth and extracting what was no longer needed and/or impairing her health and comfort. Pet dental care has come a long way in recent years and we’re glad that many pet parents are taking it as seriously as they should. It is always important to remember that pets cannot voice their discomfort and pain, sometimes even hiding their symptoms for as long as they can, so it is up to owners to take responsible preventative actions to ensure their health is maintained. Regular dental care can significantly improve not only your pet’s oral health but also their overall well-being, as proven by Miu Miu’s experience. By scheduling routine check-ups and cleanings, you can help prevent serious dental issues from developing and ensure your furry friend enjoys a happy, pain-free life.
